About Agronomy Division

Agronomy Division is one of the biggest research division of BARI and contributing significantly to increase crop productivity through development of different agronomic management practices. The division conducts research on Cropping System, Crop and Weed Management, Multiple Cropping, Adaptation to Climate Change and Unfavorable Ecosystems. Selection of suitable crops and variety to improve cropping system is very important for crop intensification and diversification. Multiple cropping is also play a very important role to increase cropping intensity, productivity and profit. Presently about 60% of the land are belongs to unfavorable ecosystem where cropping intensity and crop productivity is very less. Agronomic research to address the unfavorable ecosystems like salinity, drought, charland, hill, beels etc. is of prime importance to explore the potentiality of the adverse ecosystems. Agronomic research includes crop, soil and water management and their overall interaction in the cropping systems. Recently, the Agronomy Division has initiated different agronomic research on Chia, a new crop enrich with quality nutrients and having high medicinal value.

Brief Biography

Dr. Dilwar Ahmed Choudhury is a renowned Agronomist working as Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Agronomy Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. He has been doing research in the field of Dry Land Agronomy, Cropping System, Climate Change Adaptation and Crop, Soil & Plant Management. He did his PhD on Drought Management of Wheat from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. Dr. Choudhury has published several research articles in reputed journals in home and abroad. He is the author of a book Selection of Wheat Genotypes Grown under Residual Soil Moisture published by Lambert Academic Publishing.
