Tuber crops Research Centre (TCRC) deals with potato, Sweet potato, Aroids, Yam and Cassava. Before the Tuber Crop Research Centre (TCRC) was established, the Potato Research Center (PRC) solely conducted research on potatoes. The PRC was founded in 1977 but to more broadly encompass its research and development activities for potato and other tuber crops, PRC subsequently renamed as TCRC in 1988. More than a hundred nations across the world cultivate potatoes for human use. The potato is Bangladesh's third most produced crop and fourth worldwide.  Significant increases in potato production have led to a rise in the variety of potato uses. Bangladesh has however begun exporting fresh potatoes and potato products. Potato produces the highest return per unit of land and effort when compared to other agricultural crops. In Bangladesh, sweet potatoes are a major crop despite the fact that they are  cultivated in arid and salty conditions on marginal land with minimal irrigation and fertilizer. Developing salt-tolerant varieties from germplasm would be a huge step forward and would cover a huge swath of land in the southern hemisphere throughout the winter. Certain varieties of sweet potatoes include a lot of vitamin A, which might help in the fight to eradicate avoidable childhood blindness in  in our nation. Vegetables like aroids are crucial because of their high nutrient content and the fact that they appear on the market during the periods of vegetable shortage. There is a wide variety of aroids in Bangladesh, and some of them may even be cultivated year-round in home stead area. There are a variety of yams, all of which are nutrient-dense.  Cassava is a commercially and culturally significant crop due to its widespread usage as a staple food and for the manufacture of starch. The amount of arable lands is continuously reducing and the population is expanding, therefore minor tuber crops like Aroids, yams, and cassava are expected to become more significant crop in the near future, especially in Bangladesh. Remarkable research achievement in the last few years was achieved in potato, Sweet potato, Aroids, Cassava and Yam. This centre has already released 104 potato, 17 sweet potato, 11 aroids, 2 yam and 2 cassava variety.
